Hometown Flavors: Dippy’s Ice Cream

Everyone has sIMG_0474omething that is truly meaningful to them. People cherish different things; some of these items may be a book, a ring, or even a simple ice cream place. This may sound a little odd considering that anyone can buy ice cream in any area and it usually tastes the same. But when someone comes home from a long vacation or a college student comes home, the first thing they want is comfort and familiarit
y. For people in the Mantua, Woodbury, or Mullica Hill area, Dippy’s Ice Cream is the comfort that they cherish.

For three decades, Dippy’s has been serving ice cream and treating

their customers with delicious food and desserts. One of the many struggles at most ice cream shoppes is the atmosphere or seating. At Dippy’s, this is no issue. There are plenty of picnic tables and other types of seating arrangements for their customers. Since Dippy’s tends to stay open until the winter, there is indoor seating and heat. On a cold December evening, sometimes all you want is a cup of hot coffee and delicious ice cream. Dippy’s can do this for you!

Although Dippy’s offers nearly the same ice cream varieIMG_0470ties as similar ice cream places, people from the area seem to be addicted to it. Dippy’s is mostly known for their smooth handmade, soft-serve ice cream. Different ice cream concoctions and mixes can be found at Dippy’s such as a flurry, milkshake, sundaes of all kinds, and unique flavors of ice cream. One of the most popular flavors, especially during St. Patrick’s Day is the Irish Potato ice cream. There is also flavors like the blue Cookie Monster, various water ice flavors, and more hard ice creams that cannot be found anywhere else in the region. But Dippy’s does not just stop at ice cream: hot dogs and burgers are also served everyday. If you’re in the area and need a quick lunch and also a wonderful ice cream? Come to Dippy’s and enjoy both at once.

Dippy’s is located on the Bridgeton Pike in Mantua Township and it is open Monday through Sunday 11:00AM until 10:30PM. For ice cream cake orders or questions, feel free to contact the store at (856-)468-4441 or email dippysicream@verizon.net.

An Extreme Coffee Toffee with a Plain Bagel and Cream Cheese.

As a college student, finding a place to relax and do homework is sometimes difficult. At Crescent Moon, you can stay and write hour-long essays with their free wifi or meet up with some friends or coworkers with their comfortable seating. Located in Mullica Hill, this coffee shop has created the perfect place for people of all ages to calmly enjoy themselves.
One of the most popular shops opening up recently are coffee or bakery shops with a relaxing environment; Crescent Moon has all of these essentials in one. Crescent Moon has creative lattes with creative names. Some drinks include the French Toast Latte, the Truffle Latte, and the Reese’s Latte. Each name really stands for what the customer thinks it is going to be. The Truffle Latte contains their special dark hot chocolate and adds two shots of espresso which can be topped with whipped cream if you desire. The differeIMG_0395nt flavors and different coffee blends are what helps Crescent Moon stay different from your
local Starbucks or Barnes and Noble.
Drinks are not the only great thing to buy at Crescent Moon! From breakfast to lunch to just a sweet treat, they have anything to feel your stomach. For breakfast, you can have a delicious plain bagel, or their specialty bagels like the Cherry Apple Walnut bagel. They also offer a variety of breakfast sandwiches, quiche, muffins, scones, and more. Surprisingly, you can get a top quality wrap or sandwich. Highly suggested is the Buffalo Chicken Wrap in either a spinach or whole wheat wrap. The wrap has perfectly shredded chicken mixed with Frank’s Hot Sauce, and the ideal amount of bleu cheese. Salads are also a highly chosen lunch from Crescent Moon; a recommended salad is the Greek Salad with romaine lettuce, cucumber slices, feta cheese, black olives, tomato, red onions with a delectable red wine vinaigrette
One of the biggest highlights of going to Crescent Moon is the atmosphere. With the great music selection, cozy couches, and perfect lighting, you will never want to leave.
If you are a coffee lover or someone that needs to get away for ten minutes or two hours,
Crescent Moon is the place to go.

I Scream, You Scream: The Franklin Fountain

IMG_0206We all scream for ice cream! Ice cream parlors see everything from championship wins to family nights to first dates and even to those inevitable break-ups. But sometimes the ice cream and the experience become repetition. A person tends to get the same flavor in the same size at the same place. If you’re looking for a place to break the constant repetition, the Franklin Fountain is the perfect place to experience change.

The Franklin Fountain is located on Market Street in Old City, Philadelphia. Owned by brothers Eric and Ryan Berley, this old fashioned ice cream shop transports each customer into a different era.
Now to the important part: the ice cream. Unlike any other dessert in the area, the Franklin Fountain gives each customer the satisfaction they are looking for: delicious ice cream. Workers in a white uniform with black bow-ties graciously scoop your desired ice cream flavor from the refurbished soda
fountain. Some of the most popular flavors are Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, and their special Franklin Mint Chip. But what makes this ice cream pIMG_5260arlor even better is their
specialty flavors. Teaberry Gum, Black Raspberry, Green Tea, and Pistachio are just some of the different flavors that you could find daily at the Fountain. As you can tell by now, this isn’t your average ice cream joint and it just gets better. The Franklin Fountain also serves delicious milkshakes, sundaes, soda, ice cream sodas, thirst-ades, and even the classic vanilla or chocolate egg creams. One of the favorite sundaes is called “Mt. Vesuvius”. This sundae includes either chocolate or vanilla ice cream with a chocolate brownie, dripping with hot fudge and covered in malt powder. (And of course whipped cream.) This may be one of the more popular sundaes, but it is one of the more basic ones. Some of the complex sundaes include the Peach Melba Parfait, which includes their special Peach ice cream. Another sundae that is unlike any other is the The Stock Market Crunch with their unique Rocky Road ice cream.
If you are a tourist or Philly-native looking to show some friends from out of town the best of Philly, this is the place to go. The Franklin Fountain is unlike any other ice cream parlor in Philadelphia, and maybe even the country. Don’t believe me? Maybe you wiIMG_0209ll believe Food Network star and food guru Alton Brown. Brown claims the Franklin Fountain to be in his top ten restaurants in the country. He claims that, “You feel like you’ve stepped back in time in the best way possible.” The Franklin Fountain was also featured in the “Food Network’s Top 5 Ice Creams in America” list from 2015. Even if you know you will still get your classic vanilla or chocolate, the Franklin Fountain is worth the trip. You won’t regret it!
